Fire Prevention Week at MHS

October 11, 2016

Mossy Head School’s Pre-K, Kindergarten, and 1st grade classes celebrated Fire Prevention Week with a visit from the local fire department. Firefighters brought their fire trucks and gear to teach students about preventing fires and what to do in case of a fire. The students had a great time learning about fire prevention and safety from our local firefighters. MHS would like to give our local fire stations a big THANK YOU for helping our students learn about fire prevention and safety!

MHS welcomed Dads to school on September 28th for “Dads Take Your Child to School” Day which is part of Florida’s State Initiative to get fathers more involved in their children’s academic life.  The intent of this initiative is to highlight the significant difference fathers and father figures can make by taking a more active role in their children’s educational experience. When fathers play a more active role in a child’s education, children perform better academically; have fewer discipline problems; and become more responsible adults. We were pleased that so many fathers took this opportunity to become more familiar with our school and staff.

Rita Forbes from Scholastic Book Fairs, on behalf of the Dugas Family Foundation,  presented a check to Mossy Head School that allowed the students to add a book to their home library. Each student received a free book from the book fair.  The Dugas Family Foundation donated the money to promote a "love of reading."

MHS hosted our annual Title 1 meeting and Reading Night on September 22. Parents visited activity stations with their children and were given different strategies to use at home to help their child reach their reading goals.
