Mossy Head School was selected to receive Kid Comfort”, a custom-built cottage from Cottages for Kids, designed by HGTV’s Vern Yip.

Cottages for Kids is a unique fundraising event in Rosemary Beach that benefits Children’s Volunteer Health Network, a faith based, 501(c)3 non-profit organization that seeks to enhance the lives of uninsured and underinsured children by facilitating free, immediate access to medical, dental, vision and mental health care.  With tremendous imagination and craftsmanship, builders and architects come together to create, construct and decorate whimsical cottages that look like they have popped out from the pages of a fairytale to modern creations brimming with creativity.

MHS Celebrates Literacy

January 27, 2014

Mossy Head School hosted 2014 Celebrate Literacy Week, Florida! events during the week of January 13-17. Students participated in themed days such as “Tackle a non-fiction book,” where students wore their favorite sports attire to read non-fiction books and “Wear red and read fiction.”. Students also set a goal to read a combined total of 4,000 minutes on Monday to participate in Florida’s Million Minute Marathon. The students exceeded that goal by reading 5,985 minutes in one day! Mossy Head School media center also hosted a book swap for students to exchange their old books from home for “new” books to read! The Mustang News hosted several guest readers on the morning show to read books to the entire school. Each day, students were reading books and taking Accelerated Reader tests. On Friday, the top 5 readers in each grade level, based on their Accelerated Reader tests, were chosen to come to the media center for a “pop-a-top and read” party, where students read magazines, chatted about their favorite books, and popped-a-top on their favorite soda. Third grade students from Mrs. Ness’, Mrs. Stahl’s, and Mrs. Cole’s classes participated in a presentation by Stacey Betts from the Walton County Health Department. During the presentation, students read a comic book about the importance of diet and exercise. The students of Mossy Head School showed their love for reading all week by celebrating literacy!
